Jim was on several international committees for many years, including the Commonwealth Committee on Mineral Processing Congresses from 1980-1994. He gave Plenary Lectures at several of these Congresses. Jim was a Fellow of The AusIMM and the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy London.

Rodney Elvish – AusIMM celebrating 125 years

Elected to Council representing metallurgists in 1997, he championed a small Board representing Disciplines at the 1998 Institute Review. Rod was inaugural chair of the AusIMM Metallurgical Society, Councillor of the International Mineral Processing Council and was elected as the 2001 AusIMM President, chairing the first AusIMM Board.
